Eligibility Criteria – Eligibility of candidates will be the responsibility of the candidate themselves as per the criteria mentioned in the Information Brochure. He / She should check his / her eligibility
before participating in the commissioning process
Education Qualification – (A) Short Service Commission in Army Dental Corps is open to candidates possessing requisite qualifications, BDS / MDS from a College / University recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI) for the respective batch / year and who have registered themselves as Registered Dental Practitioners with any State Dental Council. Candidates should have secured a mandatory min of 55%marks in final year BDS* (aggregate of all subjects). (B) The candidate must be a citizen of India. (C) Candidates should have completed one-year compulsory rotatory internship by 31 Mar 2017. No condonation of internship of one-year period shall be accepted except – (i) Students of the batch admitted during the academic session 2007-2008 & have completed four & a half year BDS course along with 06 months’ compulsory rotatory internship and (ii) Students admitted during the academic session 2006-2007 at Rajah Muthiah Dental College, Annamalai University & have completed 05 yrs. BDS Course without internship.
Age Limit – Maximum permissible age for SSC will be 45 years
Screening for Calling for Interview – Candidates for interview are shortlisted on the basis of the marks scored in the National Eligibility-cum- Entrance Test, NEET (MDS)-2017 conducted by National Board of Examinations (NBE), New Delhi, under the aegis of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The list formulated will be utilized for screening of candidates in the ratio of 1:10 to be called for interview, i.e. for each advertised vacancy ten candidates will be called for interview.
Interview – Shortlisted candidates will be called to appear for interview before a duly constituted Selection Board, at New Delhi to assess their suitability & merit for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in Army Dental Corps. The final merit list for Grant of SSC for all candidates who have appeared for the interview will be based on the performance in the interview alone. The candidates who qualify in the interview will be subjected to Medical Examination.
Medical Examination – All the candidates who are provisionally placed on the merit list will have to undergo a detailed medical examination for ascertaining their medical fitness. The decision of the Medical Board will be final.
Physical & Medical Standards – Medical Examination is a mandatory requirement for all candidates. Every candidate on being qualified, in the interview will have to undergo a Medical Examination by a duly constituted Medical Board of AFMS for ascertaining their medical fitness as per laid down standards for commissioning. For reference of the candidates, the general guidelines / parameters for medical fitness are available at www.indianarmy.nic.in. Only those candidates, as declared medically fit will be eligible for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Army Dental Corps. In the event of a candidate / candidates being declared medically unfit by the Special Medical Board (SMB), the President of the Special Medical Board will intimate the same & the procedure for requesting for Appeal Medical Board (AMB) to the candidate/candidates. Unfit candidates should report for AMB within a maximum period of 42 days from the day of the SMB. Candidates are advised in their own interest to appear for AMB well in time and should not wait for the last day given by the SMB. The Candidates are advised to note that this office has no role in Appeal Medical Boards (AMB) and the procedure as advised by the medical authorities is strictly adhered to. Candidates declared UNFIT by the AMB will be intimated by the President, Appeal Medical Board about the procedure to challenge the findings of AMB. Candidates are intimated that the Review Medical Board (RMB) will be granted at the discretion of the DGAFMS based on the merit of the case & that RMB is not a matter of right. Candidates will be considered Medically Fit only on receipt of approved medical documents. Pregnancy, if detected at any stage, after selection at interview or during pre-commission Medical Examination will render the candidate as unfit & hence debar the candidate from grant of commission.
Emoluments – The Civilian Dental surgeons on commissioning in AD Corps will be granted rank of Captain in the pay scale, PB-3 (15600-39100). They will be entitled to Grade Pay of Rs.6100/- Military Service Pay (MSP) of Rs. 6000/-, Non Practicing Allowance (NPA) at the rate of 25% of Basic Pay + Grade pay + MSP and Dearness Allowance as admissible. In addition, entitled free rations, subsidized accommodation and allied facilities shall be
provided. MDS degree holders will be eligible for PG allowance of Rs. 1500/- p.m. or Specialist pay after fulfilling the mandatory requirements for the same. In addition, officers are entitled to 60 days Annual Leave & 20 days’ Casual leave in a year, LTC, free Medical facilities for self and family including dependent parents, Group Insurance of Rs. 75 lacs & Canteen Stores Depot (CSD) facility etc. as per existing rules. The present emoluments are subject to revision, in accordance with the implementation orders of the 7th Pay Commissio
Tenure Engagement – The SSC tenure is of 5 years extendable by another 9 years in two spells; first of 5 years and second of 4 years (total SSC tenure 14 years) for those who are willing to continue subject to availability of vacancies and meeting the laid down eligibility criteria for grant of extension as per extant policy. On completion of 2 years service as SSC officer, they are eligible to apply for limited number of vacancies available for Departmental Permanent Commission (DPC) provided they do not attain the age of 30 years (for BDS candidates) and 35 years (for MDS candidates) on 31 Dec of the year of application for DPC, in accordance with the relevant rules, as amended from time to time.
Provision For PG Course – Permanent Commissioned officers after completion of 4 years of physical service are eligible for in service professional career enhancement (MDS) as per extant Training Rules applicable to Dental Officers.
Promotion – SSC officers are eligible for time bound promotions up to the rank of Lt Col. On grant of Permanent Commission (PC), officers will be eligible for time bound promotion up to the rank of Lt Col, thereafter up to the rank of Lt Gen by selection. Candidates who hold three years MDS Degree at the time of joining service will be eligible for three years antedate seniority as per extant rules i.e. they will be promoted to the rank of Substantive Major on completion of 1½ years service, whereas, candidates with only BDS Degree will be promoted after 4 ½ years.
Entitlement – Candidates are entitled “To and fro” second class railway fare by Mail/Express train or actual cost of bus fare if the mode of travel is by bus and DA at prescribed rates for the days of halt at Delhi. Candidates appearing for the second or subsequent time are not eligible for the above entitlement

- Permanent / Provisional State Dental Council registration certificate
- No Objection Certificate from the present employer, if any
- Notification or any other authority clearly highlighting your name, if there is any change in the name after Matriculation (10th Class)
- Authority under which BDS / MDS Dental College / batch (of passed out candidate) is recognized by DCI. A certificate endorsing / certifying the same may be acquired from the college authorities.
- Attempt Certificate from the Head of the Institute.
- Enclose one self-addressed post card for ‘Acknowledgement’ & one selfaddressed envelope of size 23 cms x10 cms with Rs 40/- postal stamps affixed, for return correspondence, if any, through speed post. (applications without envelope & postal stamps of the specified amount will be rejected).
